Reforestation and Host Communities’ support in the North and the Bekaa.

 

Description of the Project:

In response to the lingering Syrian crisis and its manifold implications, including environmental ones, the project aimed at supporting host communities in the North and the Bekaa to restore parts of their lands and offer working opportunities to local and Syrian refugees alike.

 

General Objective:

The project aimed at planting 33 ha and 25 ha in the North and Bekaa respectively to secure rapid employment opportunities for vulnerable Lebanese and Syrian communities. Moreover, the project aimed at raising awareness and capacities of targeted communities.

 

Project Outcomes/Specific Objectives:

  • Support vulnerable host communities in the North and the Bekaa through rapid employment schemes in reforestation.
  • Enhance environmental conditions in select northern communities through reforestation of 33 ha and 25 ha of degraded lands in the North and the Bekaa respectively.
  • Increase environmental awareness of the targeted North and Bekaa communities.

 

Project Results/Outputs:

  • Reforestation of 58 ha across the North and the Bekaa through the planting of 58,000 seedlings of various species.
  • Recruitment of 102 daily workers in the North and 103 in the Bekaa.
  • Awareness activities and capacity building reaching out to more than 68 local community members within the targeted communities of the North and the Bekaa.
